The core of your writing while sounding reasonable in the beginning, did not really work properly with me after some time. Somewhere within the paragraphs you actually managed to make me a believer unfortunately just for a short while. Wow… Jazz is in the low end of the spectrum???
I guess the researcher has no first-hand knowledge of music, or he/she would know that Jazz is actually a music style that takes a “bit more” knowledge to appreciate than other a-la-pop styles… In fact, you will find many people bored by Jazz because they don’t “get the nuances or can’t grasp any rhythm other than a 2:4, 3:4 or 4:4…)

This “study” is terribly unscientific. I see that Norah Jones (my former student) is rated higher than jazz. She would laugh at that! She, herself, studied jazz (with me) with dedication and could tell you first hand about the intellectual challenges required to master it. The problem is that jazz is TOO challenging for most people. Any highly intelligent person who also has a broad-based background in music would tell you that jazz is for SMART people. I notice in the survey that the word “jazz” was printed, but NOT ONE name of a jazz player, group, style, or even a period in jazz history was mentioned. And did you notice that “Beethoven” and “Classical Music” were at opposite end of the spectrum? Beethoven IS Classical Music!!! How “scientific” could this study possibly be? We have a musically illiterate society. And because so many of our most brilliant people love jazz and classical music, this “study” stands refuted, in my opinion.
